Georgina Lily Gemayel

Geography and Environment, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Georgina is a PhD candidate in the Department of Geography and Environment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an NSF Graduate Research Fellow, and a trainee in the Biosocial Predoctoral Training Program at the Carolina Population Center. She is a human-environment geographer whose research examines the intersections of climate change, nutrition, and gender in the SWANA region.

Using mixed methods, including large-scale climate and health survey data and participatory qualitative approaches, her work examines how climate variability and sociopolitical stressors shape women’s nutrition, caregiving practices, and infant and young child feeding. Grounded in feminist geography and population-environment frameworks, her research connects population-level health outcomes with the everyday lived experiences of women under climate stress. She founded the SWANA Population Working Group.
